Choose the bike you want, not the bike you think you’re forced to have!
Many modern bikes have seat heights ranging from 31 inches & upwards.
This is due in part to the ergonomic requirements of raising the footpeg position to increase ground clearance, as manufacturers chase ever more dramatic lean angles, yet still keeping reasonable legroom for everyday use.
Even bikes like Suzuki's superb SV650, have a seat height of at least 31 inches,
making them a bit intimidating to those inseam-
It's difficult for some riders to feel comfortable on a bike that is so tall they can't put both feet on the ground at a stop.
It is possible to lower a bike, so that at a stop a shorter rider can comfortably
reach the ground with both feet. We're not talking about lowering a bike down to
the ground dragbike-
While there are some minor disadvantages to lowering the suspension on a bike, it does give shorter riders the opportunity to ride most types of bike that they'd ordinarily shy away from.

4ft 11” tall, 21” inside leg, currently rides a Suzuki GSR 600
Jan set her heart on a Suzuki GSR 600 but needed the bike lowering, lightening and with modified controls to meet her requirements.
The front forks and rear suspension unit were removed and expertly modified to reduce their overall length to achieve the ride height Jan required. Custom made springs were then fitted, replacing the originals with items matched to Jan's weight. The original geometry of the bike is retained using this process.
Comfort & ride quality are also improved. Having suspension custom matched to your weight, (rather than a standard set up based on an ‘average’ person) means bumps are soaked up out on the road with none of the bone jarring shocks that the rider would otherwise experience.
The seat was modified and lowered too & Jan’s bike also features a gorgeous set of Pazzo levers which match her small hands perfectly and look pretty trick too!
Here at SMC we understand, bikers are not average!
Many newcomers & even experienced motorcyclists are often put off, simply because the bike they fall in love with has a seat height that 'they think' prohibits them from controlling the machine safely, especially when manoeuvring the bike at low speed.
You don't have to choose a bike simply because it's the only one your feet can reach the floor on!
We help you get your feet planted firmly on the floor, from simple seat lowering, to a sophisticated engineering solution which allows us to tailor your bikes suspension to suit your height, weight & riding style!
So don’t be put off, come & talk to our team at SMC Bikes, we believe that bikes should be accessible to everyone, without exception!

SMC can lower almost any make & model of bike to suit you!
